Current set up. 400 with a c6, stock transfer case
I'm going to be swapping in a 351w with a built up aod trans. Now, am I going to have to move the transfer case or can I just bolt up the aod. Mount the 351 up and call it good (I know the 400 takes the big block motor mounts but I'm not worried about that) or does the t-case have to be shifted forward or what's all involved?
Whichever transfer case you have I am sure wont just bolt up to an AOD tranny. You will need the 4wd adapter and output shaft installed in tranny. Then I think you can bolt up any 6 bolt transfer case. I think.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was thinking is that I would need the tail bit to match up. I'm just wanting the overdrive because I hate going 55 down the freeway or having to take back roads. When you only get 8 mpg it sucks. Can't wait for the 351 with tbi and a over drive gear. Even if I can only go 65 it's still better.
I have considered this same swap with either an AOD or E4OD. A couple things to consider is that while there was a 302 available in these years, it was never available in the 4WD, so the motor mounts will not be a direct bolt in. It's even worse for headers because even ones for 360 or 400/351M designed for a 4WD barely fit.
