Hi to all... I have a leak on my 97 f150 coming from a rubber hose that appears to be some sorta breather located on the rear axle where the break lines are secured the oil is not break fluid any info would be greatly appreciated tia gary oh and I'm 200 miles past my extended warrenty!!! had no problems till this
Is it leaking where the hose (a diff breather hose) is connected to the axle.........or is it coming out of the top of the hose (which should be mounted high above the diff)??
This hose (that is connected to the axle at the differential) is leaking from above the differential??? This should not happen....that means that whoever filled your diff last put in WAY too much fluid.
thanks for your input....I undid the filler plug and I was swamped with oil..I think one of those 15 min oil change places was the last to top off all fluids, the funny thing is that was quite some time ago can't see why it would only spew it now. thanks again gary
No problem. As for the amount of fluid....I usually only fill up to the bottom of the fill plug and then cap it. However those Quick Lube places blast that stuff in there and then slap the plug back in....so it is likely that they WAY overfilled and when your gears get the fluid hot that it can splash up into the breather hose easier and this overspillage is what you see. I'd check your manual to see what the proper amount is and fill to that level.
Tanks Blueoval I'll have that taken care of tomorrow, ya wouldn't believe what happened today.......after the oil letting I decided to change my oil & filter so I start it up and on comes the battery light - no more green light in view glass on the battery take it to a shop they say bad battery so buy a new one and than have em chech the alt output ,and guess what less than 12 v.....looks like it wasn't my day only good thing is I found this site tanks Gary
