Hi there everyone,
I have an 03 6.0 F250.
My truck started blowing fuse #45 and it would kill my gauges (fuel, oil, mph, rpm, temp, trans temp, and odometer) and I was just replacing the fuse and putting off the repair.
However, the most recent time my gauges blew, the fuse did not, and I put in a 20 amp fuse, in hopes that it would not blow so quickly, bad idea.
So naturally, I ordered a new shift lever, in hopes that it would fix the gauges and I wouldn't have to deal with it anymore, but I think it was too late and something else needs to be replaced.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I could possibly have blown by having a larger fuse in there?
Any help is much appreciated,
Thank you!
Mark,
As far as I can tell the gauges are the only thing that aren't functioning. I'm not sure how it's wired to track down where the damage is. Any guesses?
Thanks for the response!
Mark what section of the diagrams should I post for him?
I have the 03 Workshop Manual and can make PDF of
the diagrams if I know what ones to look for.
The connector that more than likely took the hit is C270a
I also put in the diagram for the Power Distribution 13-31
You may of burned the panel at this point. First look to see
if you can find any crisped or burnt wires.
Then report back. We will work from there.
BTW the modules you mentioned are almost all getting power
power from that one point.

Where exactly can I find this connector to check for any damage? Do you think it's possible that my instrument cluster was burnt out? I took a look at some wiring diagrams and most of the functions I found that weren't working came from the instrument cluster and that same fuse #45.
I don't think it the cluster or at least not the only thing that has poofed.
The reason is that some of the items are not in the same modules.
Look at PDF 13-31. The dashed lines are modules.
I don't have the connector location chart. You are going to have to use plug shape, pin
count and wire colors. Once you find the correct connector your going to check each circuit
for burnt/melted wires. It could even be inside the CJB (Central Junction Box) AKA : Fuse
Box. Inside that box are some small components and a board. You could of burned a trace.
But like I said you are the one that will have to do checking. It takes eyes and hands on the
truck from this point on. Electrical troubleshooting can be a pain in the ***. The best thing to
do is to verify each circuit for continuity one at a time. Also use your nose and sniff for burnt
smells. You would be surprised how handy a nose can be when doing this.
