When I tow our RV, almost 12K scaled, in summer here in NC I see around 220-226. Pulling yesterday coming back from the beach I was seeing 210-218 and it was 83 degrees speeds 55-65 mph.

I normally see up to around 218* towing my 15k fifth wheel in the summer. Not towing, it will vary between 190* and 205* depending on ambient temps and how hard I am pushing it.

I've seen 240 a couple times, just for a few minutes, with no problems running regular Rotella 15w-40

Ok my question wasnt geared towards whats everyone seeing..... my question was towards what are temps that start to be dangerous? Just so i know for the future if the case ever arises.

Well, race car guys run oil temps as high as 280*. The highest I have seen on my truck is 245*, but that was towing 12k up a 6% on a hot desert day where he ambient temp was 118*F....so, you are more than good and shouldn't worry. Oil won't even break down at that temp. I didn't like it, but I also learned it wasn't that big a deal.

Just an opinion here, I would start to back off if I was sustaining 250 or higher oil temps, but that also has to do with my water temp being in the 230's if not higher also, and here comes transmission temp.

The Service Manual states the "Normal Oil Temperature Operating Range" to be: 140*F - 230*F. Based on that, I would take away that more than 230*F indicates an issue of sorts. Not to say an intermittent spike while towing up-hill or under WOT is "abnormal". But, "Normally" 140-230

230. But as stated above a spike above that won't hurt a thing

I have always gone by rule of 230* being the max. This is what I set my warning at on the gauge. Although I have never seen this temp.

As stated, temporary spikes above this will likely not harm anything, but it is a good idea to attempt to keep it at or below this temp.

The new trucks run 247 temps towing. Ford don't seem to mine. Look at your oil ratings, some can run higher then others with out breaking down. I think I'd run an extra oil cooler
if I saw 240 temps while towing, couldn't hurt.
