I'm trying to find the missing part from this air cleaner shown below. Its from my 1974 F100 that my mother left me. It was almost completely restored just before she passed. I've only had to do a few things trying to get it to pass inspection in Virginia. But the guy would not pass it because the part missing from the air cleaner. The hole needs to have 2vacuum lines going to it, but I can't find the part or a diagram that has it in it. The motor is a 390. Any information would be great.
The hose then ran to a valve cover. The valve cover on the other side had the pcv valve in it, and the hose for that ran to a spacer under the carb in some cases.
I thought it was the same part. I got it in and realized that's not what it is. I replaced the past that was 40 years old and thought I would start asking. My step dad that was a mechanic couldn't remember what the part was called. Here's a few more pics.
The hole is on the left side of this picture. The capped end of the pvc filter in this picture and the broken line on the bottom of the air cleaner are the only two lines not hooked up. Pretty sure the connect to the empty hole.
Looks like a connection to a vapor cannister. # 9D692 on pic. Plastic connector connects to tube to cannister. Part# D0AZ-9D692-B. Green Sales has 25.
Yes, that is the connector for the vapor line that goes to the charcoal canister.
Yes, Green Sales has them but be prepared, the right part number comes with the wrong part. The part will fit and function but the original is straight and the replacement is at a 45° angle.
Here's a picture of a low mileage original '74. You can see how it's supposed to be. The second picture is the part you'll get from Green.
Actually, we should all add the "disclaimer" of with or without the evaporative emissions system.
Some trucks came equipped with the system some didn't. If your truck has a charcoal canister mounted to the inside of the frame, below the battery, then your truck has it and needs the elbow and tube.
If there is no canister then the truck does not have the evapoartive emissions control system and HIO Silver is correct and there is just a blank block-off plug there instead of the elbow.
Here's one without the system, it just has a plug.
