There is no break in oil. The motor is broken in when it leaves the plant.

The Motorcraft filter is $15 on Amazon. The oil change itself is one of the easiest you can do. What makes the second change even easier is to change out your drain plug for an EZDrain valve. Makes changing a no mess deal. Use a piece of tubing to drain the oil right into empty oil jugs and you won't even need an drain pan. For the filter, take a large screwdriver or hole punch and punch the filter before threading it off and it will drain right into a pan. Otherwise, the oil will run down the sides and make a mess. Here's a link to the EZ drain valve and the tube extension.

Rodney,

You use one of these? I remember a thread where a couple of guys were having trouble with the valves leaking. Amazon ratings are mostly positive. You like it?

I tow my camper about once a month on average and I drive about 18,000 miles a year in total. I've always changed my oil at 7500 and never had an issue, including the first oil change. Not saying this is the best way, just that its what I do.

I've used them on every vehicle I've owned for the last 10 years. Never an issue. Most of the other guys in the 6.7 section run them too.

It just seems like heresy to not have a wrench in hand when you crawl under the truck. Every proper man's man oil change requires gloves, at least two wrenches, lots of cardboard and kitty litter, brake cleaner to spray out the oil pan, and Goop to clean up with. Avoid all that fun with this little valve? Not for me.

Wait... what?

Don't forget the bag of rags and giant 13 qt. capable drain pan. And the fact that the drain plug faces rear and the 13 qts shoot like a rocket straight back and over said drain pan. LOL. If my man card gets punched for doing it cleaner and easier, so be it. I love tucking a piece of tubing into an empty gallon jug, opening the valve, and letting it fill. Then, when full, shut off momentarily, and switch to another and continue. Rinse and repeat until finished.

Ok, but you just quadrupled the installation time.

So, you're up to 7 minutes. You can do it! Maybe Ford will take notice and offer it as a future option???

Since we are always on the road I will stay with having the dealer do this for me...The bonus is that they keep records of it so I do not have to..

Overpaying for inferior oil is certainly an option...

But, yes, I can understand lifestyle dictating choices...

Having to waste valuable space for the drain pan, filter wrench etc, then finding a Walmart with 3 gallons and 1 quart of appropriate synthetic oil and finding a filter or using more space to bring one along then finding a place to dispose of the old oil and filter...The price at the Quick Lane is not really that bad...Did not think that Motorcraft 5/40 synthetic was a bad oil since it has worked good for me so far.

It's not bad, just overpriced. I also don't trust the monkey's doing the work. But like I said, circumstance can dictate decisions and that's understandable.
