I love this website! Sooo much good info! I am hoping I could get a little help on this one.... There is a metal on metal "clink" that is driving me crazy! This noise happens about every minute; while idling, driving, over bumps, on smooth roads, during braking, cold, hot, etc. Just all the time. I do not hear it on the freeway, most likely because its loud out there. Any thoughts??
Do you think it's from the engine or the suspension? What if you coast for a bit? I had a clicking noise due to the fact that when I got new tires, the front driver's rotor shield fell out of it's place. You could hear it click when jacked off the ground just by spinning the tire. A quick and easy fix in my case... Tire guy says it happens once in a while and I have no experience to doubt him.
Thank you for your super quick response! It sounds like its coming from the suspension more than the engine under the drivers side. Was that click you are describing happen a lot back to back? This snap is like once a min. Not ever more than one snap at a time. Geeze....This is hard to describe. Sorry for my lack of description. I have not done anything to the wheels in 20,000 miles..... Thanks for your input!
Here's my nickles worth of thinking. A relay is opening and closing under the dash, maybe the click is when the radio is on, maybe inside the cab since if you hear it driving, can't be from the outside
Its defiantly under the truck. This snap/click/tick is really loud. Its driving me crazy because You would think it would happen with a weight shift of some sort. Would something on the exhaust do this? A hanger or the Cat?
You said that this happens even at idle, if its happening at idle in Park you could set the brake and chock the wheels and crawl under to listen for it. This should pretty much pinpoint the source if it's coming from under the EX.
