Dumb Question - Fill Radiator

So I'm outside right now putting in the new radiator... so.. dumb question..

How the heck do I fill this thing back up? I've never had a radiator without a cap before...

Aprox 16 quarts of coolant drained when I removed the lower hose..

How do I fill it properly...

I'll come in when the rad is in, to see if someone has taken mercy on me and shown me the way

^^^ x2. Different motor than you but same style without a cap. Fill the degas bottle to the max then run the motor. Be sure to cycle the heaters on as well so you can ensure the heater core is filled up as well, then top off as necessary.

Success! I drained approximately 16 qts when I removed the radiator, and put nearly the exact same amount back in!

Though, of course, I went for a ride once everything was said and done, and got a flat tire... at 11:30 at night... just my luck, eh?

BTW, thanks everyone for the assist!! And if you have a 2005 Excursion, buy one of the quick-disconnect tools from Amazon before your radiator goes bad.

He may be talking about ring clamp pliers.
I replace the rings with stainless clamps from McMaster which have a nice housing around the screw.

No... the radiators on the excursion also process transmission fluid. There are 2 connectors on the bottom of the radiator (in and out) for these lines.

In the < 2005 models, this is a standard screw-in connector. Two wrenches and Bob's your uncle.

For the 2005 Excursion, they switched to a quick-disconnect connector that requires a special tool to disconnect the lines. Here's a link to the one that I bought:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Same for the other Super Duty trucks 2005 (and some newer)..

That same type tool is required to change fuel filters on 2004 explorers too. spending $10 for tools (or the $22 version you bought) to do a job are almost something to celebrate!!!
