Offended by Redneck?

I had really said all that needed said about this subject, but since my name is coming up I felt compelled to defend myself! So here it comes and don't cry or whine if I offend you since the forum guidelines aren't going to be used here. The gloves are off!

It is interesting how the seriousness of this subject is being minimized so nonchalantly. Lets see how nonchalantly you react to what I have to say.

Primitive minds do think alike don't they!

Redneck definition: Derogatory racial slur used to describe a lower class lifestyle or person (always directed at white and usually poor people). Use of the word is intended to be defamatory and derogatory. This is a term used very often by RACISTS.

It is interesting how the seriousness of this subject is being minimized so nonchalantly. Lets see how nonchalantly you react to what I have to say.

When someone uses a racial slur like many that you may have heard it would be inappropriate behavior. What is being misunderstood is that no matter who likes using or is proud of being a particular racial slur doesn't make it acceptable.

Go read the forum guidelines! Just about every post including mine in this thread breaks the guidlines by being derogatory from the use of one racial slur.

What would you think if blacks and whites that call each other ****** or ***** were to start using that term here at FTE? Following the rules on the use of Redneck then it should be ok too correct? I have some friends that I have overheard talking like this. I am going to envite them to visit FTE and greet each other in their normal fashion while posting. I wonder how long it will take for FTE to slam the door on them.

I personally don't like the use of all racial slurs used in all forms and applications because I was raised to not to act like a degenerate or a racist like what is being portrayed by many that have posted to this thread. The degenerates and racists have a place here at FTE and have been welcomed with open arms.

If you are so proud of using the term Redneck then go ahead and use it. But what you need to do is put the three words Degenerate, Racist and Redneck one right next to the other because that is what I and many others see anyway!

I don't really care what racial slur you are or proud to be. You can be proud of any racial slur you can name, but that doesn't make it proper behavior does it? Someone that posts at FTE has a signature that reads something like this: "If a million people say something foolish it is still foolish".

To everyone who likes to use the word Redneck here at FTE.
Everytime you use this word just remember it is seen by many as being used by a degenerate and a racist. Whether you disagree or disbelieve this is beside the point.

Since many of the forum guidelines have been broken this thread should end, but I feel someone in control of the forums is getting a thrill out of this, so it will continue I am sure.

RHunt 64:

Websters definition of redneck

1 sometimes disparaging : a white member of the Southern rural laboring class
2 often disparaging : a person whose behavior and opinions are similar to those attributed to rednecks

Racist? Not according to this.

its not that we don't understand that the word redneck is derogatory it is just that we all feel that incorporating the word into regular speech will eventuallly eliminate its negatative connotation.

I won't disagree with the validity of your hypothesis rhunt. But , i do believe that there are alot of "Rednecks" ...so to speak that have a self image of a hardworking, no-nonense, honest , conserative, who earn their way in this world that...Don't deserave too be thrown into your all-inclusive grouping of people who Hate people of skin colors other than White. Just as there are some folks on this website who seem to despise all libreals ...I think they call that Sterotyping....or some such. There are lots of very conserative "Liberals" in this country who are very , fine, people who embrace both liberals and conseratives of all ethnic backgounds and socio-economic status. I, happen to love Ethnic jokes that are not based on a hate theme , rather they show how we all differ in our ethnic point of view as well as our particular form of ethnic english. To sum up...I think you need to put A Scope on your Shotgun and tighten up the pattern just abit so you don't hit the Preacher in the but as well as all the sinners........sk

I really could not care less about another person's opinion of me, so why would I be upset by being called redneck? No one here even mentioned what it means to "Have a red neck". It means I worked out in the sun to get a shade of red, caused by the sun, on the back of my neck. There is no shame in being a hard worker or blue collar.
To those whom I offend with my use of the word (or any word, words, or comination thereof) if you don't like the way I talk DON'T TALK TO ME

The word *Redneck* does NOT represent a racial slur.

Please direct me to the dictionary that you say states that being *redneck* is a race of people.

Exclamation Offended by Redneck?

Howdy Guys,
My wife brought home some wine and wanted me to try it. She was tired of the domestic beer. I was game, and put it in a QT cup with some ice. She says the only thing that keeps me from being a "dyed in the wool" Redneck is i don't wear a NASCAR hat backwards. If Redneck was an insult in todays vonacular, I'm sure there'd be alot more fights. Remember when "gay" meant "happy"? Culture and langage change. If my idea of a good time is a box of new Ford parts, a 12 pack of domestic brew, some AC/DC, and busted knuckles in the company of like-minded folks makes me a Redneck...Then so be it. Sheep make good eating. That's all. My mother and father (divorced) don't see each other at the family reuniouns. I reckon my idea of being redneck is being comfortable with being content with the simple pleasures of life.
I'm off my soapbox now.
-John R.

my necks always red from the sun! so go ahead call me a redneck i dont care! red necks or country boys is a better way of life weather you live in a trailer or a mansion. atleast we aint out killin each other at 2 in the mornin or over dosin on drugs. lifes to short to worry about what people call ya whether its racist or not. if some one calls you fat tommrow you gonna starve your self to make them happy. be your self and you will find your gruppies that will appreciate you for who you are. thats true happiness. when i think of redneck i think of a good ol' country boy who aint affriad to work and knows how to have fun, even with economy tars.

Offended by Redneck?

I was going to start a thread exactly like this one later, but I was beat to it. By golly my name popped up and I just had to jump in with both feet and defend my name! It has ran long enough now to get an idea of how everyone feels I think. So, far most hate me I think.

This subject has been way more interesting and enlightening than I could have imagined! I hope it made everyone think about this. There is a point to all of it and you may be surprized to know that I was just curious what the outcome would be. So give me a strike for starting an argument.

Ok, to the point. The way moderators at this website have been pretty fast to close a thread for something that is so benign was shocking to me. So I started reading and discovered that there are other things allowed that are much worse and are questionable. I choose the debatable words Redneck and Hillbilly although Hillbilly got lost in the mix somewhere.

Anyway many people came to the defense of Redneck when I challenged it. As far as I can tell my side of the debate was just me against everyone else that posted. Needles to say I lost the debate horribly! I really don't use Redneck, but that is my choice and I have no problem with anyone using it here really. I can easily be gazed upon by anyone be labled Redneck I suppose. I apologize to the people who got upset at my analogy of it. If you hate me for it well, that's ok. I am not perfect.

I hope I still have some friends here at FTE.

You might remember I already went over it before about having more openmindedness and allowing a problem to exist before taking action. The results were that no changes on any moderators part will result.

Reasons given for closing those threads:
In a moderators opinion a subject that is never ending because of past threads on same. Subjects that have never had positive results in the past.

I suppose I could go look again and get the subject titles.

I'll give FTE credit for having flexibility with this subject and thread. Don't take what I am saying and doing the wrong way. I do mean well. Maybe I should just back off and just enjoy FTE as it is. How often does FTE get any negative feedback? I'll bet almost never. Still, there is always room for anything to be improved including myself. I have learned a lot in the past month about how I get the wrong results by stating or asking something too vaguely. I am trying harder to use better details now, but I am still not perfect. Hopefully I am getting closer.

Anyway don't take me the wrong way. I like FTE and the people here. I don't mean to offend anyone running or visiting FTE.

Rhunt , I think your initial post was very much to the point and made a very good case for your point of view. Don't backup from the origional thesis of your argument. And, don't sweat(sp) the criticism as it is always going to emerge both objective and subjective. My only point of divergence was that your brush was just alittle too wide. Like all things in life there is very little black and white with most issues being a million shades of gray. You used the term "hate" in your description of how others feel about your essay. I think that IS NOT the case at all. Just because you received some strong responses doesn't mean that people hate you personally. And, so what , even if they do ...who the Hell cares.. stick too your point of view and let'um eat cake as george bush said about the democrats at his last BBQ. keep on truckin , sk
