Working with a dealer on an order? What priority should I ask (demand)? Retail or Stock? I keep seeing different numbers. Can someone give me the short scoop on what I should ask for?
Dealer priority starts at 10 and orders are picked up by Ford based on the dealer's allocation. High volume dealerships tend to cycle through orders quickly and sometimes small dealerships have to wait until they get allocation. This is certainly not understood by many people as there seems to be lots of variations and line jumping that is unexplainable.
Dealer priority 99 is a place holder where a dealer can create an order and Ford will not pick it up until it is re-prioritized to a real number.
Priorities 1-9 can only be created with the support of the dealer's Ford representative. A priority 1 for example is used if a customer order comes incorrectly and the customer wishes to order again. A priority 1 would push that order to the front of the line and should be scheduled for build almost immediately. Build date may still be weeks out but the order will be picked up right away.
Someone from within the dealership ordering dept can provide better info but this is what has been discussed over the last few months on FTE.
Thanks for the info. So will a stock order come in quicker than retail? Should I push either way? I'm going with a high volume dealer. Not sure if that would matter on Stock vs. Retail.
Folks tried their luck with Stock vs. Retail and it's hard to know if it really helped. When the launch started, no retail trucks were built and only and another time where retail only were being built. If you're working with a high volume dealership I would just talk to the order folks or fleet folks and take their advice.
I don't trust dealers. I worked for one when I was younger. That's why I am asking you guys.
On Wednesday I am going in to discuss trade in value and price on the order. I want to get this delivered before the new year for tax purposes and if they want to hold out on price and make the deal fall apart, I will be back at square one. And that just goes back to not trusting them. So know that I know which priority is going to help me the most then I am that much better off.
Even if they give you priority 10 if they have no allocation your truck still might not be picked up for awhile. Ford seems to have the production line running pretty good now but if you need one before the end of the year I suggest you start searching around the Internet for a dealer that has one in stock- as this is the only way you can be guaranteed to have one in your time frame.
My problem is that I HAVE to get what I want this time. Last time I was replacing a totaled truck so I had to settle on some things that I didn't want and somethings I wanted but couldn't get. So this time I am going to get what I want. I may not make the year end cutoff but I am going to try.
It's not a need thing, it's a want thing and I don't want to be wanting anything after I get this one. At least for awhile.
I'd order from a high volume diesel truck dealer. My is a priority 17 and I expect to have it in 6 weeks. Ordered Sept 6 and dealer estimates next week.
