Should I be alarmed?

I know it can take a while for a truck order to be processed, but from I've heard here, many others have gotten their trucks in less time.

Here are the details:
Order Confirmation date: 11/20/03
Dealer: F41356
Order number: 0012
Priority: 11
Order Type: 1
Price Level: 430
Order Code: 608A

My salesman says that Ford hasn't even scheduled my truck to be built yet, and he thinks it might be late February before there is a change in status.

Is there anyone else having to wait so long for their truck order?

This is an allocation problem. Allocation is the number of vehicles a dealer "earns" based on what he's sold previously. Let's say they were allocated 5 Super-Dutys for this quarter, and they've already ordered 5 before you came in. They (and you) will have to wait for the next quarter to get your order scheduled. Now, NO ONE at that dealership is going to tell you that, because they're afraid you'll cancel your order and go to another dealer that can get the truck built faster. They'll tell you I'm making this up, they have too many orders at the plant, Jupiter isn't aligning with Mars, etc... The right dealer can get that truck in 4 weeks, from time of order to the time it rolls off the carrier at the dealership.

You know, I have heard what Mark is talking about before and I've been wondering about that. The dealer I would like to buy from is a very large dealership and they've got a huge lot full of trucks...loads of them. My guess is that the high volume dealers get higher priority because Ford naturally wants to keep the big sellers stocked up. If that's the case, I will most likely work hard on getting the deal I want from one of the few big dealerships here in town so I can get it quicker. Maybe the smaller guy is more hungry and will give me a slightly better deal, but if it means waiting another month from the time I had hoped to have it, I will pay a little bit more...but not a lot more. I'm glad this subject was brought up.

I'm assuming the priority number in bz919's info above is a low priority? The lower the number, the higher the priority?

This is not necessarily an allocation issue. I ordered my truck 10/2. My order is listed as unscheduled/clean. The dealer is getting 3 super duties delivered 1/14 and 1/16. These trucks were ordered 11/20 and later. The dealer tells me there is no way of finding out why my truck is still unscheduled. I am having a hard time believing that the factory will not tell a dealer why it is taking over 3 months for a truck to be built. If the factory is waiting for one of my options there is a good chance I could live without it.

My understanding is that a priority of 11 is the highest there is. As for ordering from a large dealer, I did that too. It's the largest in our area, anyway and they move a lot of trucks. I got a pretty decent deal from them (at invoice), probably because this is the second Ford I've purchases from them It is just so frustrating! It's hard for me to imagine that with all the trucks being cranked out at the plant they can't get mine built a little sooner...

I hear ya. I will be ordering mine ('04 F-150 Lariat) in about 2.5 months. I'm hoping I don't run into something like this. I'b be so mad. Did you order something odd or out of the ordinary? What model and options did you order?

Nothing too out of the ordinary, I would think anyway:

short bed
6 speed manual
Camper package
limited slip diffy
shift on fly
power towing mirrors
back-up sensor

About the most out of the ordinary feature might be the manual tranny, but I can't imagine that would be the hold up.

Hey 1956MarkII - I want to go back to the allocation issue for a moment. You say per quarter...so can I to assume the end of the first quarter is the end of March and the beginning on the 2nd quarter is April 1??? I had planned on ordering my truck on April 1. Maybe it will work out great that way. The dealer I want to order from said he saw an order come in just about 4 weeks. I checked their stock of new style '04 F-150's and they currently have 98 in stock. That tells me they buy quite a few and have no trouble getting them. Another potential dealer for me has 110 in stock.

I just found out why my truck is "unscheduled/clean". It is due to the fact that the rear end is on order. Apparently the company that makes them is having a problem. I ordered my truck with the 3.73 limited slip. I don't want to change it so I just have to wait.

Just got a call from my dealer today. The truck is being built as we speak and should be in within the month.

TrueBlue I'm not sure what truck you ordered but when I ordered my truck in Dec 03 they told me that the 3.73 rear end with the limited slip wasn't available anymore in the F350
