So I put on new manual hubs on my 98 ford ranger truck. I cant get them to lock in, keep in mind, this is my first manual hub truck, in fact, my first 4 wheel drive truck.
Is there a combination you have to follow to make them lock in?

================= Which manual hubs did you install?
Rugged Ridge 15001.70 27 Spline Internal Mount Manual Locking Hub. A mechanic put them in. The truck came with manual hubs.
For what ever reason, I cant get them to lock in. Is there a certain combination you have to do to get them to lock in??
============= BOMK all 98-03 Ranger's had PVH (Pulse Vacuum Hubs) and the RR are replacements to do away with the PVH's.
NOI, when you lock them in are you also moving the switch to 4x4?
I would recommend jacking up the frontend and look to see if the axles are turning when locked, if not then could be the RR hubs were packaged wrong as I have the same PN sitting right beside me for my 98, but found a way to make them manual without switching the hubs (after I had bought the RR's).
Yea, put the truck in park, get out, turn the hubs, flip the switch inside, shows up on my dash its on, and its not locking in. The hubs are marked locked and free, and yes, I made sure both sides said locked when I tried it.
Seen a few that say you gotta back up, others say you have to be in nutrial, then lock em it, switch it on, turn the tires left and right kinda slow, then they will lock.
Cousin, looked under the truck, he used to be a mechanic, said everything seemed to be working.
I just bought this truck about a month ago. I am NOT a hard core, have to have 4 wheel drive kinda guy. Just something to make snow travel a bit easier.
So I guess I am just trying to ask, is there a certian combination you gotta do to lock em in??
Its a nice truck, and I am fixing it up as time goes by, and I will take it to a mechanic and have it checked just to be sure everything is working as it should, and if not, have whats needed fixed.
One of the hubs fell off, so I just put two new ones on it. Clamped them down with CV clamps to stop them from falling off, only thing holding them on is plastic clips, and illinois roads takes a toll on me.

================ So it had the RR's on it when you bought it and one fell off?
Doesn't matter where you are, the hub should never just fall off.
You have to determine if the front driveline is actually engaging. One way to do that is to switch into 4WD HIGH and then have someone watch the front driveshaft while the truck is moving. Just get the truck rolling a little bit. If the front driveshaft doesn't spin when the truck is moving and in 4WD mode, then there is a problem at the transfer case and/or with the 4WD shift circuit.
If the front driveshaft does spin when the truck is moving and in 4WD mode, then the problem is no engagement at the wheel ends (hubs).
The procedures you saw that instruct you to back up (only for unlocking) are meant for the auto-locking hubs. Since you have manual hubs, those instructions do not apply. No monkey-motions required for manual hubs. Just switch the hubs and the switch in the cab and it should work.
I don't know. My truck threw a fit, its at the shop now. Glad I checked this thread. Think I am gonna call him, have him check out the locking hubs, make sure everything is working as it should.
