ok might be a dumb question but what is the purpose of the manual locking hubs...does it do the same thing as when i put it in 4 wheel drive from inside the truck...i have on the fly 4wd
True manual locking hubs only connect the wheels to the axles when the hub is manually turned to the lock position. There is no automatic feature.
You have ESOF which has automatic hubs with a manual override feature. When you turn the button on the dash to select 4-wheel drive a solenoid uses vacuum to automatically lock the hubs. If this system fails (which can happen for many reasons, ie. dirt in the system, vacuum leak, solenoid failure) you can manually turn the lock override on the hubs, locking them to the axle no matter what position the ESOF selector on the dash is in. If you manually lock the automatic hubs they will stay in this condition until you manually unlock them.
True manual locking hubs have less moving parts and less things to fail so they are more dependeble and rugged than Automatic hubs.
I rotate tires every 5000 miles and at that time I turn front hubs from lock to auto, A few times each while turning wheel. At 20,000 miles I take hubs off and clean and relube, also lube the needle bearing inside of wheel hub at this time. And besure to engage ESOF at lest once A month.
