The one I got is pretty stiff, but no more so than the C1TZ that I sent back. I think the rubber will loosen up with use. If you haven't removed those attaching screws from the floor pan yet I suggest a #3 Philips bit in a ratchet plus some penetrating oil. But since you are in CA. you probably don't have to deal with the kind of corrosion we have here. Out of 6 of those that I have tried to remove only one came out without drilling the head off of it.
The old accelerator pedal separated where the heel meets the foot and there is a metal hinged rod providing support under a coat of rubber. No rust issue here?
Allowed the truck to collect dust in the elements for 7 plus years, there are a few areas where rust is an a problem; i.e., drip rail, small area in the area of the hi/low beam switch. Soaked the bolts in penetrating oil day before and were not too difficult to remove. Was not sure if the PO had not swapped the 2 bolts securing the pedal to floor: 5/8-18 x 2", in Bill's post #7 it appears to be correct.
The only one I could remove in one piece was a dog pointed fillister head screw with 5/16-18 threads and a shoulder just under the head, and it was about 2 1/4 inches long. I see them in usual places for 3 to 5 bucks each.

From head to toe bolt measures 2 1/4", seems excessive considering floor pan probly no more than 1/4". Anyhow, intends installing pedal some time today, having a discussion w/ self whether to replace or use original bolts, they should clean up well??

Thought the bolts were perhaps long for the application; however, I did use my bolt and thread count gauge and came up with 5/16"-18 x 2 1/4" and they do screw into the floor pan threads securely, do no know if previous owner modified?

All three of the trucks I have here had 5/16- 18 threads in the floor pan. Two of them were built in late 1964 and one in May of 65. The bolts that I took out looked like the one in this e-bay listing. This listing says they also fit 1967-72 pickups. Of course someone could have replaced the floor mat or the pedal and changed the bolts but the threads are definitely 5/16-18. 1964 1965 1966 1967 1968 Mustang Accelerator Gas Pedal Mounting Screw Bolt New | eBay
I'm not saying this is the correct screw. This is just what it looked like. Personally I'm just going to dig through my junk until I find a pan or fillister head screw that fits and screw it to the floor.

The bolts pictured on ebay are totally different than those removed from my 65, which are long hex head bolts. Fortunately did not get around to installing the pedal yesterday, now on hold, like you, intends sorting thru an assortment of salvaged Ford nuts and bolts looking for replacements, perhaps shorter?
