Alright guys, I've heard about how robust C-4 tranny's are and I know they are used heavily in racing, but I am wondering what you think about them in your daily driver or stock setup.
On my truck, I currently have a brand new TCI C4 installed and to me it feels sluggish and is unsure/inconsistent on shifts... Before that I had the cheapo Advance Auto deal and I wasn't impressed with that.
On the other hand, I have a 66 mustang with a C4 and it's pretty darn solid (or at least it was before I parked it for a resto).
Are C4's really that finniky to get them just right?
I can't even think of how many C4 transmission I've had. I'm sure the number has to be at least a dozen. And the only one I ever had give me any lip, would be in my first 66 Fairlane 500. We eventually pulled it out and put an FMX in it's place. And truthfully, I'd rather have the C4.
Yeah, I mean it seems like a pretty straightforward system. I'll have to let you take a ride at some point in it and see what you think. The backstory is quite the tale too...
I don't know if it's just that I'm on edge since it's new and I'm worried something is going to break. But, for instance sometimes when I take off it seems to get confused b/w first and second gear and will shift back and forth before deciding to stay in second gear. But that is only sometimes.

Check the vacuum line from either the intake manifold, or the carb, that goes to the "Modulator Valve" on the side of the transmission. That little sucker is what down shifts the transmission. Also check the transmission fluid level, and see if that fluid is burnt. You'll know just by smelling it.
