Absolutely. I was very impressed with how they actually diagnosed the problem and they did good work too.

Just thought I would update this thread again. The pinging ended up returning a couple thousand miles later. The cause this time is the passenger side head gasket being blown. Thankfully it was leaking coolant to the outside of the engine and not into my oil. Remember to change your coolant!

Finally got the truck back from the shop. They replaced the head gaskets, rebuilt the cylinder heads, replaced the exhaust manifolds, replaced timing cover gasket and timing chain, and replaced the harmonic balancer. Certainly spent some money, but it's running good now. The mechanic spent 5 hours cleaning rust out of the cylinder heads and block. He took a video, so I will see if I can get that and upload it next week.

The video was much too large to upload but here is a picture of some of the rust flakes that were sprayed out on the 5th cleaning with CLR.

Yikes, that looks bad. As for the video, you could upload it to YouTube and then put a link here if you really want to post the vid

That's a good idea. I will get that uploaded tonight. They said the got a cup worth of flakes out of each side of the engine block too.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago. Changing to a colder plug helped........but a leaking intake valve stem seal that was allowing traces of oil into the cylinder, was the cause of the problem.

I had noticed one plug would sometimes look white, & sometimes match the other seven. The white ash was burnt oil coming past the stem seal; the ping slowly got worse.

I replaced it (& all the others while I was in there), & the problem was fixed.

Good luck
Ding ding ding yes that or a very small leak head gasket check your spark plugs mine is head gasket started too small to notice then got worse change your foweled plugs mark the cylinders check your antifreeze and oil for a few weeks if missing head if not what he said or its the o2 sensors lol

The issue ended up being a plugged water jacket causing extremely high temperatures in one cylinder.
