Knock sensor location

Does anyone know where the knock sensors are located on a 95 F-150 302 auto and if it's bad could it cause poor acceleration and backfiring in the cylinders? I know it sends a signal to the PCM when it detects pinging and knocking for the timing to be advanced or retarded( which is what I feel like working on this thing) to the PCM. Thanks

Backfiring in the cylinders? Do you mean into the intake?

The knock sensor is at he back of he motor behind the intake but it won't cause the problem you describe. That sounds more like bad or misrouted plug wires or low fuel pressure.

Would low fuel pressure be the reason I'm smelling raw gas, it probably is backfiring in the intake. It just sounds like it coming from the bottom end of the motor.

Raw gas is a rich condition or a big leak. Pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator if gas comes out it's toast. Also pull off one of the vacuum lines from the charcoal canister(it goes to the throttlebody), if you get gas out of this while the engine is running you have a fuel transfer problem between tanks.

I've replaced the FPR, so I know it's good. There was no gas coming out of the vac line either when I checked it last. The charcaol cannister is the rectangle looking thing on passenger side of the motor, but doesn't actually sit on the motor right.

It should be mounted on the frame up by the rad.. a black plastic box with a hose out the top that splits into a Y and plugs into the drivers side of the throttlebody.

Yeah, mine is up by the radiator, but it's on the passenger side bolted to the bottom of the battery box. I pulled the vac hoses and no fuel came out of either hose. Could a clogged charcoal cannister cause these problems. Also I didn't feel to much vacuum coming out of the either hose, is that normal. thanks

Your truck may have a solenoid valve inline between the canister and intake, if so you won't bet much vacuum unless the computer commands the valve to open.

Have you changed the plugs or wires on the motor recently? Are they wired for the 13726548 firing order? is there any arcing between wires? Good way to test this is place the truck in a gaage at night with the lights off and run the motor, you'll clearly see any arcing.

I changed the plugs out 11000 mile ago, I was thinking they could be fouled out. After reading some other post I decided not to put new ones in there. I'll check each wire thoroughly and take each plug out to see if it's fouled out. If they are fouled I'm just wondering what would've fouled them out in 11000 miles. The plugs are autolite regular not platimun or anything like that.

If you have a DMM measure the resistance on each wire, it should be between 5000-8000 ohms.

I wonder if my PCM relay could be bad, if so do you know where it is located in that big black box under hood. Which one it is?
