Bed Size

I posted this in the 1999 and up section and suspect that the answer lies here...
I have a specific need for the bed size of my 1992 F250 LB, the tailgate measures 66 3/4" wide. But, the truck is getting long in the tooth and I might replace it. So what's the newest F250 that retains this bed width? I realize it borders on heresy, but I'd even consider another brand if it meets my criteria. For those that are curious, this is why I need the width, not so much for this one but a newer/wider one!

Why not use a trailer? Or go with a flatbed? I have no idea on bed sizes. That load does not look safe to me, with the weight on the tail gate like that.

Well that is the stupidest thing I have seen in a while, what are you thinking? Getting a car in there can't be easy and it's certainly not safe.. you need a trailer.

That pretty much sums up what I was thinking.

You all realize that that car weighs under 2k, right?

The only thing I don't like there is all the weight on the tailgate. Based on how the front is loaded he's got have some sort some ramps in the bed for it to roll on to. If they're designed and build well then I see nothing about this that is worse than your typical ramp truck or car hauler with a slightly rotten deck.

As for getting pulled over by every cop that sees it and/or handling like crap, if that were the case do you think OP would be looking to do it again with a new truck?

I have a very hard time believing the rocker is just sitting on the wheel well and that there's nothing in the bed to support the car.

I'm with you on this. My concern is the tailgate supporting the two rear tires. I'm sure the F250 can safely handle the weight, it's more a matter of how the load is secured in my eyes. I totally understand not wanting to use a trailer. That's why I suggested a flatbed. It could be tailored for this sort of haul. I think people really underestimate their versatility until they have one themselves.

I second the flatbed idea.
We replaced the rusty dump bed on our 93 with a flatbed, and the amount of ways we can use it is awesome. Makes me wish I put one on my 97.

A custom wedge would be just as easy as a flatbed (albeit more expensive if you don't DIY). I agree on the tailgate not being a good place for that kind of weight. I'm a big fan of drop-sides that can be unpinned from their hinges and pined to the rear as ramps
