Chuck I had to dig deep in my recall stuff , what I found you may look into this,
Reverse planetary

This number is for my late built 04 and the dealer did the recall work, it says they dropped the Tranny , disassembled , replaced the planetary and filters, recall charge was fluid, kit and two different numbers on the bolts.
This was back in February 05 recall # 04sb24

The next step is to remove the rear driveshaft and the rear axles and take it for a test drive. Going to use 4wd so only the front wheels be driving. This takes the rear differential out of the equation completely, it will not be spinning at all. If I still have the noise then I know for sure it's not the rear differential.
Anyone see any problems with my plan?? Don't want to screw anything else up.
