Changed my two fuel filters for the first time laying on the ground at Grand Tetons where we are camped today. Simple! Watched Epic's How-to video in the Tech section. Be aware that the 2016 has a rock guard you have to pivot out of the way by removing an 8mm bolt that is not in the video, and the top filter is just a quarter turn to take out; no bolt. To move the rock guard down below, take the bolt out and the guard swings up and out of the way. This forum is not only awesome but also saved me a couple hundred $$.
Wonder if the '15 is like that too... I guess I shall find out soon enough. My first 2011 was like Epic's, my second Job 2 build my upper filter was like yours without the bolt.
Can't wait for Epic to redo all his videos on the 2017...
All this talk about fuel filters, I just changed mine... 13k miles so it was time. They were very clean and so was the fuel - no traces of water or dirt in the fuel istelf. I was a little worried, but not anymore. Only real PITA was that on my 2015 fuel kept dripping out of the housing even after the entire filter was removed... Didn't have that problem on my 2011.
I cycled the key 10 times and she started right up like I never changed the filters out. Drove around the block and parked it. So I assume all went well. I guess I will know tomorrow when I do a longer drive on the highway to drop the kids off at school if I pinched the o-ring or not.
Daks, I was concerned about the siphoning or dripping as well because I had a full tank. I loosened the canister about 4 turns, no leaking or dripping, opened the drain valve and let it run until it slowed to just a drip, then removed the canister. No spilling it mess at all. Somehow that loosening of the canister first makes a difference. I changed both filters before priming. Like you I also cycled the key 10 or 12 times until the bubbling in the fuel pump stopped, then started right up.
My 16 has the rock guard... like the guy said.. on 8mm nut to loosen and it swivels out of the way.... surprised me after crawling under my 2011 for 5 yrs.. of filter changes.. But then again there were many other changes as well under there.
