Filling Fuel Filter

I changed my fuel filters twice myself and had no trouble starting my truck using the prescribed cycling of the key switch.

The third time they were due to be changed I was away from home and took my truck into River Oaks Ford in Calumet City, Illinois. They changed my oil and filter and fuel filters.

I was where I could watch the tech change the secondary fuel filter. He took a can and poured fuel in that housing. I complained about that to the service writer. He said they always did it that way because some of these were really hard to start after changing fuel filters. I told him mine had started right up for me both times I changed filters without priming the secondary that way.

I don't believe I'll ever take the truck back there for a fuel filter change! What say ye about this priming method?

I hope that was highly filtered uncontaminated fuel. The fuel pump and injectors are very, very sensitive to dirt and contaminents. That is why you have two fuel filters!

My sentiments exactly! That's why I was appalled to see them doing such a thing.

Ive changed my fuel filters twice now and helped a friend once. Each time, we cycled the key as the owners manual states and had zero problems. Not to say that others wont, but worked as advertised for me.

Nobody cares for your truck like you. I have always just cycled the key and it always fired up no problem. I don't see any reason why you would need to prime it that way although I did hear about some 6.0 guys that would pour some fuel additive directly in the filter housing before they reinstalled the filter. I don't know if I would want to try it or not on my truck.
