Hello. I just installed a late 70's 1 barrel on my '84 300. I know the original was being monitored by the computer, so what will running this non-feedback carb do, if anything, to the computer and/or the timing? It runs markedly better than it did with the original. I haven't spent a tank of fuel yet, so don't know whether it is drinking it or not. One other thing, this carb has an electric choke where the other one was the "heat" pipe type. Is that supposed to be a direct hot wire or should it be going through some type of relay that will shut it off after a certain amount of time? Thanks in advance.
No, it is the original distributor, non-vac advance. That is why I was curious to know if there would be a conflict with this type of carb. Not sure what the distributor would be basing its advance/retard on other than the O2 sensor maybe. I'll hook the choke up to the "sta" terminal. Thanks
well with the tfi system the timing advance is soley controled by the computer and that's based on the map sensor and the TPS (throttle position sensor) on teh feedback carb..so you are probably not getting any timing advance anymore.
I initially did not have any timing advance so I swaped to the duraspark 2 dizzy to fix that. Made my mileage go up 3 mpg..
Great. Not to be stupid, but what is a sizzy? Also, the duraspark, is that an older setup than the tfi or an aftermarket deal? Thanks very much. Oh, what might I expect to pay for these 2 items? Appreciate it.
a sizzy is my bad typing, it's suppose to be dizzy as in a distributor, you can get both of them from a wrecking yard for mabye 50 at the max, the duraspark II is a factory ford ignition system that they used from mid 70's up to mid 80's
