my steering colum was messed up om my 69 camper special the privious owner took the nut off and tried to take the wheel off with a hammer and it messed up the threads and the turn signal switch so i went to pull and save to get a new to me colum with the shift linkage and all for 25 bucks. everything was there on the colum and i found the 6 pin connector but couldn't find the two pin connector and it was dirty inside so i decided to tinker(dumb), i put it all back together but there was a big gap so like an idiot i used the impact to try to lessen the gap and it almost worked until the nut went to far( i am talking about me and the steering wheel hold down nut.) i couldn't reverse the nut and the turn signals still don't self cancal then i tried to cut the nut off and chewed up the threads on the top end so now i have to go get another colum. what other years will fit? it has two connecters, one with 6 pins another with two pins. i would like to get a more modern one with cruise and dimmer up on the colom but that requires a lot of rewire but it would be nice.

1967 to early 1969. 1969's before ser number G30,001. 1975 was the 1st year for cruise control in pickups. 67/77 will all have the neutral safety switch on the bottom of the column. 1978 was the 1st year for tilt steering. 78/79 Dentside column has no provision for the neutral safety switch. Ford had moved it to the tranny.

Hey Jeff, this just got me to thinking... What about using the tilt wheel from 78/79 and putting the NSS in the dash as a " push button ".
Push Button w/ R hand and turn ign. key. Easy way to solve the NSS issue and a " Toothless Jake " theft proof device!
With steering columns, you need to have matching gears to connect to. While the total length is the same, the connect point is 2 1/3 in closer to the firewall with the later Saginaw gear.
For a fact, you do not have to use NSS, I drove my 66 for 15 years without one. It can be started with the gear selector in any position.
I've installed a few tilts in bumps over the years. The "gap" is not the wheel needing to be tightened down, but the column shaft needing to come up by the column shroud adjustment.
'67-'69 columns will have two separate connectors coming from the column to plug into the two connectors on the main wiring harness under the dash.
'70-'72 columns will have one connector coming off the column to plug into the main wiring harness.
'73-'79 columns will have one large semi-circular (gray) connector coming off the column. This connector isn't compatible with the main wiring harness connector(s) on the Bumpside main wiring harness but, it is possible to wire the TSS in, without cutting any of the Bumpside main wiring harness wires, by fashioning up a short patch cable to plug in in between the column connector and the main wiring harness connector(s).
The Bumpside through 1977 Dentside trucks with an automatic transmission had the NSS on top of the steering column, inside the cab, near the firewall. In '78, the NSS was removed from the steering column and was mounted on the left side of the automatic transmission.
