The dashes mean that parts that would normally be installed as RPO's (Regular Production Orders) were not present, instead the parts that were installed were Domestic Special Orders.

There's no parts catalog information inre to Domestic Special Order parts.

If one of these parts fail, the dealer has to contact FoMoCo with the 6 digit DSO number. FoMoCo looks up the order number (last 4 numbers), tells the dealer where the part can be obtained.

I've been away for a couple days, wondering what my truck has for an engine. I don't know much at all about these at all, from what Ive read id guess its an FE and I was assuming it was the stock 352. I'm sure some of you will be able to identify it by these pics.

this engine runs very well no clicks or smoke, it starts right up and has a reasonable amount of power. I don't plane to keep the engine in the truck, its going to be pulled put up for sale and replaced with something more modern and efficient.

Most definitely an FE and the oil filter is correct for a truck. All FE blocks say "352" on the drivers side front so you need to find a casting number. If it is a 1966 352 it would start out as C6TE or something like that

FE engines (352/360/390 and etc.) have 5 valve cover bolts per side, but...

If you think that by swapping in a more efficient engine (whatever that will be), all you'll be doing is wasting your money.

These trucks have the aerodynamics of a brick, a gallon of regular was around 19-25 cents and back then, no one gave a hoot about MPG!

I found the '352' casting mark on the drivers side front so that is the engine I have.

ND, I do realize that the truck has the aerodynamic properties of the common tool shed. But I'm going to swap the engine anyway. It's getting Crown Vic front suspension (lowering it about 4-5"), steering and power brakes. I bought this truck because of how it looks and not the 50 year old technology. I can't think of any engines that could make it worse on fuel (460 may be the exception). If I put a modern engine in it and get 25mpg at 60mph will that impress you? I just can't stand the idea of paying more on fuel per hour in a truck then I do to fly my 1946 airplane at 105mph. I'm going to spend a few bucks and take this on as a challenge, just to see if I can.

Dream on!

From personal experience:

2011 F150 Lariat Stupor Crew 5.0L V8 2WD (231 1/2" O/A length): 14.5 MPG city.

2015 F150 XLT Stupor Crew 3.5L V6 (no Eco) 2WD with aluminum body that weighs 700 lbs. less than the 2011 (231 1/2" O/A length). So far: 14.5 MPG city.

1965 F100 8' Styleside pickup 352 with T-85N Overdrive. On a Route 66 Rod Run from Seligman AZ to Needles CA, average speed 45 MPH - 27 MPG highway!

The original 352 had been bored to 390 standard with 390 crank/rods/pistons, a 4V carb/intake manifold from a '66 T-Bird 428, Cobra LeMans oval air cleaner and dual exhausts.

But it doesn't make any difference in the city whatever engine/transmission/rear axle ratio is installed, so...expect no more than 8-12 MPG

I guess the lemans air cleaner gave you your 237 mpg hwy. Sorry Bill I could not resist... but it does sound like a nice truck

I do believe those are the CITY mpg numbers. From what I've read those same trucks should be close to 20-22 mpg on the highway. Most guys with the stock engines in these old trucks are getting 14mpg cruising at 55..

Please correct me if I'm wrong but the short box single cab F-100 weighs in at just under 3400lbs? That may well be with a 6 cylinder. I know weight isn't as big of a factor as the drag co-efficient but it will come into play.

I typo'd 237 MPG, corrected it ASAP, but you spotted it anyway.

And be aware that just because your block has 352 cast on it, it may not be the original engine or a 352.

That 352 (foundry mark) appears on 352/360/390/410/428 engine blocks, because all were originally cast as 352's.

And...I haven't the slightest idea what any 1965/66 F100's weigh.

The only thing I know about airplanes is, I don't own a Beech Staggerwing, but I wish I did.

This doesn't sound like EXACTLY what you're looking for, but '37 Ford guy did a '92 Mustang 5.0 SEFI/AOD transplant into his '66 F100 and reports 15 - 16 city mpg and 18+ highway mpg. He did a very thorough "how to" thread here running to 18 pages starting 08-07-12 and running into 2014. If interested, it's called "Engine swap - '92 Mustang 5.0 HO/AOD into '66 F100" It can be found using this site's search engine. Good luck with your project.
