Help! I have this gun....

So, I have recently been gifted a pre-64 production Winchester model 70 .30-06 rifle. It is in near perfect condition, but I have no use for it.

From my understanding, this firearm is quite valuable. It's serial # is 570XXX, indicating that it is either a late 1962 or early 1963 production and it has the matching serial bolt.

How or what can I do with this? What I'd really want to do is trade it for a boat like a mid-90's bayliner or one of those little jet boats.

I'm just looking for advice here, not to sell it or anything, as I know that would violate some rules of FTE.

Depending on where you are located, you may be able to trade/sell face to face, but in California, for example, all firearms dealings, must go through a FFL. There are several websites that you can go to and get a ballpark idea of what that gun is worth. I would take it to a couple gun stores to see what valuation they put on it. You can also sell it on consignment at your local gun store.

Congrats on the Pre-64 Winny.

Look on some of the sites like Gunbroker, etc., to see what they are selling for.

Keep in mind....... IF this rifle is in as good a shape as you say, it COULD BE worth a LOT of $$$.

A gunshop (FFL holder) around here, will typically offer to buy at 50% of the retail value, then sell at 75% to 99% of retail.

The bottom line............... the SELLER usually gets the short-end of the stick.

There used to be a commercial played around here, regarding suits/men's clothing, that is appropriate for this (especially!).........

I took it to a couple of dealers today, one offered $1100 and the other offered $1250. I did some research and since this rifle is in such good shape, it's worth in upwards of $1600-$1800.
