my dad is selling me his remington woodsmaster 742 30-06. it in pretty much mint conditon.
how many of you have this gun and how much did you pay for it?
I have this exact rifle. My dad gave me the gun back in 1965. It is also pristine mostly because like the other 742's their accuracy generally sucks. If the gun shoots good today, don't ever mess with the forearm or the barrel nut. Frankly, if it shoots reasonably good, just do general cleaning and no more. They sell around South Texas for about $300. with some sort of scope like a 4 power. The only reason I still have the gun is because my dad died shortly after giving me the gun. Otherwise, it would make a great tent stake.
fjestad blue book value is $325: new in the box never fired, 98%=$290, 95%=$275, 90%=$250,80%=$235...etc. i see these quite a bit, no where near as popular or valuable as the BAR and i bought and sold several for less than $200...both scoped and in excellecnt condition...so i would guess, unless its brand new with all the paper work, about $200; private party.
Have the exact same rifle. It's the one I generally use in thick. Great for anything out 200 yds with a little 2x Leupold hevy post scope.
If you can get it for $200 or so, I'd grab it. I haven't had a single problem with it, even when I first got if from my father who never once did anything but wipe it off.
My uncle and I used to have a gun shop back in 93-97 and with that said its true what ever the market will bring....I have owned quite a few in the 30.06 caliber and the Remington is nothing special....If you happen to find someone who' is really wanting that weapon you might get $250 for it... But if you were to have come into my shop and wanted to sell it outright..and it was new in the Box I would had givin you what 70% of the blue book value would be...and probably only made about $20 on the final sale of the gun..If/when it ever sold out of my shop.... JMO!!
My personal 300 yarder is a Voere Shakar 30.06 with a 4 X12 Leupold..

around here most 30.06 rifles are going any where from $300- $650. so its all about the condition. you can go buy a new one for about $550. and thats in utah. I looked at the ones at cabella's, and other gun dealers.
