I have a 94 E350 with a 7.3 diesel I took it to the Ford dealership to have a new fuel filter and oil change when I got it back the OD light was flashing and transmission shifting hard they tell me they cannot find a problem could they have possibly knock a wire off of something to make this happen
naturally aspirated,IDI diesel engine.so this means you can pull the codes to the trans very easy.all you need is a paper clip and a multi meter but it's not the easiest thing to count the sweeps of the meter.
for just a few bucks you can buy or perhaps you already own, from owning previous vehicles in the past,a basic ford OBD1 code reader.
if you don't have one,you can find them at about any local auto store.
set scanner to "hold"
plug it in.the port (at least on the pickups.not sure about vans) is under the hood,up by the drivers side hood hinge.plug in both clips.a larger one and a smaller one.
turn the key forward/on (leave engine off)
with your left hand, hold the injection pump lever (throttle) wide open.
turn the readers "hold" to "scan" or "read" position.
count the beeps/flashes while never letting go of wide open throttle (again, with engine off of course).your listening for 2 digit codes.
(if you don't hold WOT,during the entire scan,you'll get a false 23 code/tps)
once you get the codes, post 'em up and we'll help ya right out.
