Where are you looking? Takes two seconds - Plug the phrase "Motorcraft Wire Set" in your favorite search engine. Everything that pops up is $40 or less (one was $55); there's no doubt a Motorcraft wire set can be found at that price point.
Agreed, but the OP has already had a shocking experience with a cheep set of wires. I will still only buy wires that are 8mm+. The last set I purchased for my 5.0 was 20 years ago and I spent $80 on them then. Still working just fine. I digress. my $0.02

I'm not trying to take sides on this . I looked up a Ford Motorcraft set for a 1976 360/390. 1975 they did get EEC but I believe Ford still used 7MM wires that 1st year. As of 1976 they went to 8MM. I am assuming OP still using a socket style Dizzy cap. 1977 the 360/390 was gone and Ford changed to the pin style Dizzy cap.
1976 360/390 takes spark plug wire set part number D6PZ12259AFR. Replaced by E5PZ12259HR. Still replaced and I am assuming still 8MM. Suggested list price is $63.54. If a wholesale account (including the Bump Kingdom) were to call me I would quote them $47.66.
Ted is right. I got three hits in one minute for Ford Motorcraft wire sets for $35 or less. One was for $27.
Methinks dealers are dumping old inventory and there is a lot of it.
By the way, the FTC requires a "Made in..." label in stuff. China has figured it out. Now you see "Assembled in Mexico" or wherever else. Same crap. Push all electrical parts from these issue points back over the counter. You are better off with stuff from wrecking yards than this garbage.
I found that most all vehicles with all stock ignitions an coils & wire sets worked just fine back in those 70's days everything was like 7mm wire sets were good for about 3-5 yrs for the family vehicle depending on miles of usage.
Higher output ignitions systems an coils broth on heavier plug wires to handle those any of the old zapping of the finger.
Cheap is not the way I usually go, again this was a must to use the truck at the time. I read a post somewhere here or there that specifically recommended the following Ford Racing set of 9mm wires.
Is this overkill or a part you think will work? I thought about the cut to fit wires, but I am not really interested in doing that right now. I looked at the Motorcraft set involved in the jousting back and forth above and they are stamped 7.5mm. I am trying to get the best with the idea I will be upgrading the coil and possibly going to the Ignitor II.
Tedster, my question to you is this: Do you think the Motorcraft wires are up to the task of the Pertronix Ignitor and Flamethrower coil? I have no problem going the route of the base Motorcraft wires. Just do not want to end up with something that will not be up to the task of the Pertronix coil I plan to upgrade to at the same time.
Absolutely, the spark plugs and ignition only uses what it needs. A "40,000 volt" coil doesn't really apply 40,000 volts, this is a common misconception. The ignitor is basically just an electronic switch that replaces mechanical contact points and won't factor. Good wires is mostly just about the quality of the insulation material (silicone). Spiral wound will probably last longer than carbon core. Lots of hype and boat payments when it comes to plug wires and ignition systems.
I hear what your saying about the cost vs reward. I don't mind spending the money on performance rewards, and yeah some things are just cool looking, but this isn't a high revving high HP motor. Now I am curious if I should just go to the ignitor II and coil since I am going to be having to buy a coil anyhow, but is it worth the extra for this motor? Something's work better as a system. I also like the look of the Motorcraft wires. Thanks for the info guys and keep it coming.
And for a few dollars more you could upgrade your Dizzy cap a & rotor with the cap tower base. Then use any 7.5 or 8.mm thicker insulated wire an never have a second thought about leakage.
I know the Pertronix dizzy unit it's said that it's just a switch of replacing the points.
But then yet it's also recommended to use a straight "12volt" then why would it mater with higher voltage if it just a switch with no increase.
The Duraspark ll used the 7.5mm wires and the ford oem coil has the same specs as the msd blaster ll 40,k coil
Plus the later cap & dizzy wires look better then the ol skool dizzy cap system.
On your original post, you said you had a bone stock Ford engine.
Get a stock coil, a Pertronix ignition unit and Motorcraft wires. Be done with it. Base time it at 6* advance and drive it forever.
