Hub removal

1989 F250
Manual locking hubs.
I think I need a spanner socket to remove lock nut. But what size?
The shop manual says remove the lock ring with a screw driver. But I dont see one. Just what looks like a lock nut with gaps to accept the teeth of the spanner socket.

This is a 2 1/4 inch from summit and it clearly is too small.

The spanner socket needs to be bigger that 2 3/4

You need to remove the lockout hub assy before you use the spanner socket on the wheel bearing nut. At least on the 1/2T version there should be a retaining ring on the outer part of the hub and a snap ring on the stub axle that needs to be removed before the center section will slide out.

There should be a snap ring in the groove on the housing. After you remove this, take two of the torx head bolts that you took out to remove the outer housing, screw them back into the locking hub and pull.
