It was sold to me as having a C6 auto, not that I care to much. I was under the truck all weekend waxoiling it, and though I should check it out.
The only numbers I can see are cast into the bell housing: RF08TP-7A040-A
This casting number doesn't make any sense. F0 would be 1990. 8TP = I haven't a clue, since the prefix (minus the R) contains 4 digits. F8TP = 1998 truck, F0TP = 1990 truck.
C6 has 17 trans pan bolt holes, but if your truck has an FE engine, you need one that is specific to these engines only, that doesn't exist after 1976.
The C6 3 speed automatic transmission is considered more robust than the other COM gearboxes. It does suck up more power to run than some of the alternatives, but most people would be pleased to have it. It was introduced in some cars in 1966 model year, later in trucks. As ND said, count the transmission pan bolt holes and report back the number. NDcan then tell you which gearbox you have.
