Unhappy Transmission Application

I have been going through hell trying to figure out what transmission to use,i belive it is a c-6 that i am using,i have checked the vin # and it says that i need to use a c-4 because i have a 302.when i bought it the lady told me it had a winsor 351.checked for a vin on the engine and could not find it.i called advance auto for a little advice and he asked what the bolt pattern on the pan was 14 or 17 and i have 17.So he then told me that it was a c-6 because the c-4 has only 14 please help me im going crazy.

Not sure on bolt #,but most small blocks use a c-4.But you could have a c-6 which is better. Not sure if c-5 (fmx) came behind a 302,but some one will let you know.

C-4 has a square pan, C-6 pan is "S" shaped at the rear of the trannie. Not sure of the bolt #'s off the top of my head.

C4 has eleven bolts and the C6 has seventeen. Yours sounds like a C6 with the small block bell housing, same as what I have in my '77 F150 4X4 with a 351W. The C6's were made to fit just about everything Ford produced, including diesels.
