Hey guys I built this 460 I'm trying to figure out what kind of power in making.
85 460
Stock block. Stock rods and crank
Forged Pistons 9-5-1
Comp 292 duration 5.18 lift 107 lob sep cam
Dual valve springs with dampeners on d3 heads. Not sure if they are ported.
Eddy performer rpm intake
750 vac sec
Recurved distributor with electric fuel pump.
Long tubes 1 7/8 and 2.5 duals
I was hoping 450 -500 range
that's a lot of cam.do you drive it on the street at all? will she even low idle lol?
edit; oh ok.thats gotta be advertised duration and that's not real big lift for a 460.nice and lumpy idle though.your post helped me find comp cams *****' Thumpr 34-601-5 that i'll go with for my 429.so thanx!
you need a double pumper to reach and go beyond 400hp according to that.wonder why that is? 750cfm is 750 cfm despite how the secondaries open.seems like needlessly running a drag carb that gets crappy fuel economy for no gain for the street.....save for a bit more fun i guess but i don't see why a 750 vac secondary doesn't deliver the same as a 750 dp under load.
for most people i bet they will end up with a better power curve with a vac sec carb because they are not so fussy to tune like a double pumper is.those who don't tune the dp correctly will just bog and the one with a vac sec will go flying by.
then passed yet again when the bogger is refueling lol.
I see what you are talking about. That cam is a towing cam, good to 5600 rpm they say. Not a wild cam. DP carbs are supposedly for light vehicles with short gears or so I've read.
Others have been critical of the "cook book" presented there as well. I think it's like a lot of "lists" or "how-to" things: YMMV

Is this a hydro cam ? If so you can't use double springs with damper. 9.5 and 107* is too tight for my taste. I'd like to see 112. "in general" the higher the comp. ratio the tighter the lobe center. Depending on how far the piston is in the hole and weather it's a flat top ? It might be somewhere around 9-9.5.
