I need to remove the shift lever off my 64 steering column.
That roll pin will not budge. Ive hammered on it, drilled it, used a dremal on it, oiled it, all to no avail.
About all Im doing is reaming out the hole in the collar bigger.
That stupid pin has to come out.
I figured that when I took a drill to it, it would loosen up and spin. Nope. The metal heated up pretty hot from the drill bit, that didnt break it free either.
I figured that I could dremal it out, nope, its hardened steel and all Im doing is wearing out dremal bits.
Ive had oil on it for a week now.
I need to inspect the shifter for wear, replace the shift detent plate, TS cam, and figure out why the horn isnt working.
I got mine out some time back in my 1966. Looks same as your 1964 from what I can tell of the MPC. For 1964 at least it is Hardware number
357479-S
The thing that made it tricky for me was the rubber insulator 7246 allows the shift lever to move some and seems to bind the rollpin as you attempt to tap it out.
