Are you MAF or SD?
Basically you buy the filter for the Speed Density setup (if you are SD) and cut about two 4" lengths of 2.5" ID piping and hose clamp it all together.
If you are MAF, I'd just buy the FIPK. It is cheap around $120. I have one on my MAF conversion truck

M'kay pop your hood and check to see:
If you have two hoses from your throttle body to your air box you are SD.
If you have two hoses that go into a single tube to a big metal piece with a wiring harness to it, you are MAF.
Check my User Gallery for a pic of a MAF setup.

I would keep it off to the side where it is now that will keep the intake temps down.
This is how'd I'd make a po' boy's FIPK... cut about two 4" lengths of 2.5" ID piping (or however large the stock intake piping is) and hose clamp it all together with the filter at the end. Keep the stock tubing where it is.
steve@sandsperformance has pretty good deals on K&N stuff, it is worth checking out.
