i recently picked up an 88f150 /302auto/130000m. starts ok, idles decent,sputters and studders accellerating has a little torque,settles down around 25mph stays decent up around 40mph,then loses power ,loses acceleration,loses the gas pedal and slowly climbs with the gas barely opened up.....exact opposite when decellerating and coming to a stop.......could that be timing issues or is it more likely a case of a worn engine ...the truck runs clean and revs decently

Has this vehicle been tuned up? It is very possible that plugs & wires need attention. Plus fuel filter. Jake.

Get a Haynes manual, a compression tester, and a vacuum gauge.
