I have a problem maybe somebody has an idea about. Under acceleration my 1990 F- 150 "bucks" or surges alittle bit, it has a 302, I put in new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor thinking it could be it, but its not.
Could it be injectors? (the engine has 40000 miles and the rest of the truck has 229000.) Or could it be the fuel pumps? HELP PLEASE???!!!
This could be caused by several things. The best thing to do is pull the codes. Check here to learn how without buying a scanner.
I would spray some starting fluid around where the upper intake mounts to the lower intake. This gasket blows out fairly often.
If you don't find a vacuum leak pull the codes to see what sensors are being affected. Could be one of several and just replacing them without pulling the codes in hopes of fixing it can get pretty expensive.
Also, buy a fuel pressure guage that attaches to the fuel rail and check the fuel pressure.
Well I took her to a friend of mine who owns a repair shop and he had the same trouble with his 1991 F-150 and he said to check the spark plugs and wires, because that was what went wrong with his,I changed the wires and that solved the problem, all it was doing was dropping a cylinder under a load and wouldnt just idling. I guess I'll spring for the expensive set next time.
