GP's... when to

Replace them? Have a new set on the shelf however the 252k ones that are installed now give no high ohm readings.

Glow plugs either work or they don't. Do a continuity test between the engine block and the top of the glow plug to see if it's bad or not. Mine had only 2 good plugs in it with 240,000 miles, started great untell it would get down around 35* outside

I don't fix it if it ain't broke but if I had to do one I would do them all figuring that they would be near the failing point.

I went ahead and proactively changed both my original GP's and GP relay at about 270K miles, but it was only because I was already tearing into the valley to do the EBPV delete due to a major oil leak. I already had brand new GP's, up pipes, and Stancor relay sitting on the shelf, so while I was in there, I did the bellowed up pipes, GP's, AIH relay delete, wired the brand new Stancor GP relay to a new mount on the passenger fender wall, replaced VC gaskets and UVC harnesses, re-torqued all injectors, replaced the passenger head fuel line, new HPOP hoses, two new intake spider boots, new fuel bowl o-rings, anda few smaller things.

Parts only fail during use, generally on startup, and I like doing things on MY schedule in MY driveway with MY tools because it reduces the chances of getting stranded somewhere.

Only takes a few minutes to OHM them out. Do it every oil change once it gets cooler out.

I'm the same way. I don't trust anyone to touch my truck but me. I'm hoping to have everything under the valve covers last until it's time for sticks. Then it's sticks, GPs, and UVCH all at once (fingers crossed).

You don't say how high your mileage is or if you have had past hard starts in cold weather.

I used to always carry an extra GPR after the first shattered under a wrench. No fun pulling out a meter in the dead of night in an getting empty work parking lot. That bakelite plastic just cooks and dries out while the engine is turning. Of course you could always jump the terminals for a minute.

If you still have good weather it might be a good time to lift the covers because when it gets unbearably cold, just ohming them out is hand numbing to say the least. My first ones went in the dead of winter and with no garage space (too many woodworking tools) I was plugging in for almost a month and leaving my work building every 3 hours to run it for 20 minutes so it would start when I left.

You might have issues with tip warp which is best to figure out while its still warm. That's a biggy and thankfully hasn't happened to most of us. I'm sure you already know to stay with motorcraft...ZD-11?

I agree with doing things on my schedule when I have cash.

252k on the clock brutha. Bought her with 95k. From the looks of it, nothing was ever replaced besides batteries.
. Yup, MC gp's on the shelf. Thinking, since I've had them now fur awhile, might as well knock the dust off and install them.
. Being on GP topic, anyone offhand have a pic of the 2 relays that show wire orientation? Deleted my IAH years ago, and swapped over all wires to 1 relay, but left a couple in suspense. If one has a stancor installed, would dig that pic....
