So I had a blowout on the rear of my 05F250SC on the way home from work. Everything WAS going ok, but I still have the anti theft key on the spare lowering device and no adapter for the jack handle.
How do I drop my spare? Ford says that they are no longer available.
same issue with mine. I ended up cramming my skinny self up around the top of the spare, twisting and puling off the plastic funnel thing that the lowering rod would go through, and using an extractor made for rounded off bolts (cant remember size) on a long extension to get the key out. once you get that out you can lower it down with jack setup
If I was you, get rid of the key before you need it. All you need is to misplace it or lose it and you're dead in the water.

When I bought my 2013 this spring the key was missing. I ended up unbolting the bed and lifting it enough to pop off the lock. When I asked ford they said they couldn't get me a key for my existing lock. But can order me a whole new lock & key but I would have to get the old one off. You would think they could assign a key number to your VIN so you can just get a new key.

Dan, I am the only owner/driver of the truck. I know exactly where the key is located and put it back in that location the few times I have used it. Not worried about it being lost. If there were other drivers, I might consider modifying/removing the key from the spare tire winch assembly.
Plus, I carry a photo of the key code and spare tire lock code on my camera and also an email with this photo in my email account.
Does the 2002 F250 have a spare tire key? I ask as this truck is "new-to-me" and I do not recall reading anything about such a key in the owner manual. Would not want to find out it needs one, and I do not have it, at a time when it is needed!
Wen't through this back in July when I bought my CC, LB. The key was gone as well- best advice I found on the web was to take a loooooonnnng extension and add a sacrificial cheapo 9/16" socket (I think if I remember correctly) and slide it down the tube and hammer it onto the lock- lock came right out with the socket
I just took a flat end screwdriver and popped the lock off the end of the winch. I believe I had to remove the plastic funnel to do it but don't remember having to drop the spare.
