I hope I don't ever run into that scenario with mine.
Which system you going for?
After 4 days of "paralysis thru analysis"...calling up various auto and high performance companies I complied with the owner of the local speed shop and his recommendation. I was thinking I would simply replace the HEI with another one. I decided NOT to after reading some reviews of various failures. I need something that I don't have to worry about. So here is what I'm getting: Pertronix Flame Thrower Dist. (black cap) 134620, Pertronix Coil 1.5 ohms 40011, Taylor Spark Plug Universal set Black 73053, Mr. Gasket chrome bracket 6055, and Taylor Crimper tool 43390. Total with tax...$393.47. Speed shop owner promises this is plenty of juice and all I will need for my 460. He didn't try to "over-sell" me with the next step dist. and coil...he said I would not benefit from it. The engine is pretty much stock with headers, 750 Holley, medium rise manifold. I'm happy my dilemma is over and thanks to all for your helpful inputs.
My 1st thought was who's modules did you buy? There is SO MUCH automotive electrical products on the market now a days that are junk.
They come over from the land of......
2nd thought was a loose or dirty connection some where. The PO should have deleted the Pink resistor wire from the ignition switch that eventually lead to the factory coil. If he didn't your HEI isn't getting enough juice. If he did, check that connection to be good and clean. Also check them at the HEI itself. Including these:
Thanks for your response. I just decided to forget about the HEI. I want something better and more reliable. My situation was starting to get intermittent. Here's a copy of my answer to another Ford fan:

ive had issues with pertronix products. never could get them to work to there full capacity. after market non name brand distributors like your HEI chevy distributor type. ive never had an issue with. its odd how some of us have issues with parts that others have had no issues with. I d say its that they just do not make parts like they used too.
