ok so I just replaced the head lights on my 2001 f250 it had the sealed beam one piece glass headlights and I replaced those with regular headlights and when I went to get bulbs I found out after I get home the connector is different from the new bulbs.
the new bulbs fit correctly but I can not hook plug them the plug has 3 connectors that have two connectors level and one is higher than the other two and the new bulbs the three prongs are level.
my question is. is there another bulb that will fit and plug in and if so what is the part number? is there a adapter that I can get that will allow the factory plug to work? or will I need to cut the old plug off and splice a new connector on?
I went from this stock to this now. after some digging I found adapters at advanced auto parts for 12.00 dollars a piece is there a way to find another set of bulbs for example the adapter changes the plug from a 9004 to a 9007 is there a way to cross check to see if another bulb would work. really don't want to start cutting into untouched factory wires and the next question is do I need the high temp adapter or can I use the low temp adapter?
Well just my opinion, but you went from halfway decent to worse,Going from a clear lens to a tinted lens and still using stock headlights is not ideal if you're looking for better vision for night driving. You should probably consider and HID system for your truck, here's a a link to read if you want, but seriously consider the HID's. Difference between 9004 and 9007 Bulbs ? Better Automotive Lighting
If you want the cheaper way, then buy the light plugs that match your bulbs from the auto store, cut, solder and shrink tube. It's not difficult to do.
the lens is not tinted the back part of the housing is hard to tell from the picture with the sun shining on them.
so pretty much just buy the new connectors and splice them in?
Ive seen it said multiple times where Ford used an adapter on the original harness that goes from 9007 to 9004 on the xl trucks and all you have to do is remove the adapter when you change the lights but never seen it for myself. Is this not the case?
I do have a xl truck but have not seen where there is an adapter on the connector not saying your wrong but something I will look into later this afternoon
I was on eBay earlier and saw adapters but honestly i couldn't tell the difference from one end to the other, and yes the splicing is that easy just make sure your low beam and high beam wires are in the proper place on the new socket.
you heard right mike there is a adapter already there I took a look a few mins ago and found where they were plugged into the harness. the pic I took is the 9004 harness connector and the 9007 was plugged into them a very simple thing to fix.
I had just bought the new 9007 connectors from autozone at 11.99 a piece but now I can return them. thank yall for the help. this is the reason why im glad im on this forum!!!!
