So I took my truck for a drive the other day and noticed something funny. My speedo was bouncing, My gas gauge would be near E (I was low on gas anyway) and then would spime to full every 5 seconds or so. Not sure if I have a bad ground or battery or maybe even alternator. Where are all the grounds for the truck anyways? Probably gonna go through and clean them up. Then test the alternator and possibly throw in another battery to see if it rids the problem.
I could be wrong, But either 92 or 93 was the last year for cable driven speedo's. If cable driven, Get a new cable. Fuel gauge going full then back empty is a contact problem. At infinite resistance, Gauge reads full. At low, Reads empty. Could have a bad sending unit or loose wire above tank. Alternator has nothing to do with either problem. Ground maybe but I think the ground return for fuel gauge is wired back to cab and doesn't rely on body ground.
But not knowing much, Just going off avatar, You have a 92-96 f-series. Probably a 250. Need more details.

Sounds like bad wire on the drivers side frame.
An open wire to the fuel sender will peg the gauge and speedometer wiring runs in the same harness.
More than likely rodent damage.
