Ammeter wiring?

I want to wire in a simple old school ammeter and its been so long since I have wired one in that I have forgotten how. Seems like I just need to add a jumper from the "B" on the alternator, pass it to the + side of the ammeter and jump back to the + side of the solenoid?

Sound right?

NOOOO The amps will go right thru the alt wire and you will read nothing, What kind of amp meter is it, some you have to pass the alt wire thru the gauge and some you have to wrap a wire around the alt wire then to your gauge, What does the gauge look like on the back?

Amp gauges were only good for a old skool generator charging systems.
A volt meter is what became the standard use with a Alternator charging system.

Okay, yep it's old school pass thru, so, that being said can I use it with my 67 alternator F250? The whole reason behind using the particular gauge is that it was made in a garage right where my truck came from.

PS this particular ammeter is not being used, it's NOS from 1959, I have another identical used vintage Dixco that's what will be used.

Question

So, would I pass wire 152 or 38 thru the ammeter, or both?

For the ammeter to read charge and discharge you need to interrupt the lead that goes to the Battery terminal on the ignition switch. You need that wire to go through the ammeter.

Ammeters work the same on an Alternator or generator system and are a far better indication of what is happening than a volt meter.
