Just starting to look for an offending pulley (bearing noise, seems like from the area of the alternator or tensioner pulley).
Before digging, though, I noticed that the belt is not squarely on the tensioner pulley, it has shifted forward towards the fan/radiator. Is this common, is this bad, or is this normal? Just curious before I take it apart I noticed this and wanted to post the picture.
Aight, thank you so much for the quick responses. This forum has helped me tremendously and I owe a debt of gratitude to many on here.
Here's hoping I can get parts today in Cusco and, failing that, in a couple days from Lima or from Chile.
I have had to get parts from the US before, and it is invariably easier to do so by flying to Houston or Miami rather than trying to ship and import. Fingers crossed.
Option, depending on part availability - convert to the SD-type tensioner. http://www.thedieselstop.com/faq/949...les/982314.pdf . I would consider this ONLY if the SD belt and tensioner are more readily available down there than the OBS, since it involves a bit of surgery that's not reversible.
