My Expy has the dreaded A4WD / 4HI / 4LO options on my dash selector and just recently I flipped over to 4HI and I did not get anything, No indicator light and more importantley no 4x4. I tried everything to no avail. Has anybody had this problem before? I'm thinking it's got to be electrical? Switch or something. I would appreciate any help guys thanks. By the way I'm stuck on an Island In Alaska, We have a Ford dealer but labor Is twice as much as down in the states. Thanks again.
Boatcop,
my 98 expy had the same problem last year . turned out the be the transfer case shift motor. dealer wanted 480.00 parts and labor to change it out. i bought a new motor on ebay for 110.00 and it took about 20 mins to swap out. one way to trouble shoot this after verifing fuses is unbolt the shift motor from the transfer case and watch the actuator to see if it moves when the switch is activated. if it does the electricals should be ok. if not you can read for power down to the motor, if power is good motor is bad. one other thing you can check with a large screwdriver while the shift motor is off is to manually shift the transfer case insuring that its not stuck in 2wd which could have burned the motor in the first place. hope this help ya out.

Very good info I'll definatley try these things. My Expy is A4WD I dont have 2wd so to speak (well i do right now) so will that second idea still work?
(DISCLAIMER)
I dont want to start a AWD/4X4/control-tac/full time debate here!
Boatcop,
not exactly sure about your set up. my switch has 2H A4WD 4H and 4L. but i'm pretty sure you still have a shift motor to engage your your high and low 4wd. so the basics should be the same.
