Have a 1999 F-150 work truck that I bought. Of course the blinker aren't working. Flashers, wipers, H/L's all work just fine. Nothing for blinkers outside or dash indicators, either side.
Checked fuses, every time I try something and are good.
MFS. Took old one apart cleaned no change. Bought new switch no change. Have power in harness up to switch in 2 spots.
Wiring. Noticed while replacing MFS the couple wires loose on the back of harness plug. Cleaned and pushed them back into block. Making sure they are fully seated to make contact with MFS. No change. Bent contacts on switch a little for tighter connection. No change.
Replaced relay/flashers. No change.
So obviously I'm overlooking something. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.
The truck is a western truck. Hasn't been modified or messed with. Nice clean original, heck only 61000 miles. Wiring under dash looks untouched. Still has the factory AM/FM only radio.
Got new MFS connector, removed harness from column. Checked for damage, none found. Wired in the new connector so I don't have to worry about lose connections. No change.
do you have a wiring diagram? I've chased this before and it's pretty easy with a test light or multi meter and a wiring diagram. just follow the wire and see where you're loosing the power. I just use the wiring picture in the back of my Haynes manual.
Can you verify if the brake and tail lights are working?
bulbs are ok? sorry had to ask.
DID you recheck all the grounds and make sure they are good...especially under the dash.
recheck fuses and relays & flasher module?? Maybe the GEM module? but that usually will have other electrical gremlins with it.
Does the MFS stay down or up ,which ever direction, like when you turn or do you need to continue to hold the MFS wand in the direction you turn until you finish the corner?
Went out this morning double checking things. I pulled and tested each fuse under hood and in cab. While plugging the 20A fuse number 13 with the blinker on, it blinked once. Both sides will blink once and only once. Each time the fuse makes contact the relay will click and blink. So I'm off to get a couple new relay's.
Do have a couple used relay's but of unknown age and condition. Hope to heck this is it.
YYIIPPPEEE I figured out the problem. Before heading out for more parts I noticed just slightly touching or moving the fuse block would make it work. Had nothing to do with the fuse.
So I figured it's corrosion or something with the fuse box internally. Time to remove and inspect. I put a socket on the 2 bolts retaining the wiring harness to the fuse block on the back. You guessed it, they are loose. Very loose, half a dozen turns before they even snug up. Thought they must be stripped I had to turn them in so far. How or why they where loose is anybody's guess. Used trucks, got to love them.
Really easy fix once you find it. Can't believe I wasn't having other electrical problems. So make sure you check this quick and easy thing. Before buying parts or running off to the stealership.
Thanks those who replied and helped. It's nice having a helpful place to turn to.
