Alcohol

You guys think it would be safe for me to dump a gallon of rubbing alcohol into every 10 gal. of 89 to boost performance at a cheaper price then octane booster? Trucks a 86 F-150 4x4 with a 300 and a 4 spd. man. just lookin for more power.

A gallon? You sure you don't mean pint?
People in fuel forum like to whine about 10% ethanol mixes at the pumps and you want to run 10% rubbing alcohol.

Octane boosters do not increase performance, they reduce pinging and detonation.

Is your engine pinging under load? If so then higher octane will help. Otherwise it won't do anything except lighten your wallet.

rubbing alcohol is 70% isopropyl alcohol. The rest is water. You don't want to be putting water in your gas tank.

alcohol is very combustable. 30% is not that bad. once it burns off there won't be any water left. i think it would work i have had thoughts of doing that before also but i was not going to try it until i see somebody else do it. if there ride don't blow up then i might try it after i try it on a lawnmower

Generally this is done to control detenation in a boost situation instead of using water injection they use rubbing alcohol, just to build of what cloim was getting at.

DW2455
So you are pro alcohol? huh

Redneck cowboy
As mentioned by dw2455 you could probably use some alcohol, but jetting is something you should look into, and I did a little searching and came up with a little. Did learn that the alcohol may break up sediment in your fuel system and clog the filter so you may want to be sure to use a clean one. On the plus side a little alcohol will get rid of any water in your gas and allow it to pass through your system. Other than controlling detenation I don't think you will gain any noticeable performance. If it were that easy to add a dollars worth of rubbing alcohol then everyone and his brother would be doing it. Just a thought, Good luck

Alcohol has less power per volumn that gasoline. You would be running lean.

Alchohol also has a thing for water and will absorb it. I believe it's the main ingrediant in "dry gas". I picks up the water and carries it throught the carb/injectors.
