You guys think it would be safe for me to dump a gallon of rubbing alcohol into every 10 gal. of 89 to boost performance at a cheaper price then octane booster? Trucks a 86 F-150 4x4 with a 300 and a 4 spd. man. just lookin for more power.
No, it would not be safe. Rubbing alcohol is 30% water and 70% alcohol.
Octane boosters do not "boost performance" anyway.
Advancing the ignition timing can give a little more power, so if you advance the ignition timing to the point of serious pinging, then an octane booster (to relieve the pinging) might help.
Please explain "advance" and "retard" timing. I think I know what it means. When you advance the timing, the spark occurs sooner vis-a-vis the position of the piston in the cycle. When you retard the timing, the spark occurs later in the cycle. In other words, to go from 6 degrees BTDC to 2 degrees ATDC is to retard the timing?
