Anyone know anything about running alcahol in a 351 windsor? I was wondering if there was a way I could run it in my truck without burning up everything. I put about a cup of it into a full tank of fuel and it runs like a scalded rat. Which put the idea in my head of trying to put more in the tank but I was worried it might burn up the engine. Anyone with any advice?????
You might be smarter putting a 5% mixture of jet fuel depending on how much you put in, goto your local small airplane airport and they will sell it to you.
If you put too much youll burn up. suggest maybe a 80/20 mix, the lower being the jet fuel.
i use to do this on my jap bike 900rr it gives it a real boost.
Vehicle engines are not designed to run on anything other than pump gas. If you start dumping jet fuel, alcohol, rocket fuel, or anything else into the tank, you run the risk of burning up valve seats, piston rings, emissions components, and heaven knows what else.
Unless you're the "I wonder what would happen if I..." type of person, I wouldn't advise doing anything of the sort.
You can run alcohol in the motor, but i dont know what mods other than the carb are needed, but you can buy carbs specificly jetted for alcohol, as far as burning up th motor? alcohol is one of the coolest burning fuels, there are alcohol funny cars, go carts,
you buy alcohol carbs for stock brigs n stratton engines, like i said i dont know if they require more or less compresion or anything of the nature, never realy looked in to building a alky motor. good luck DW
Did you that has nothing to do with the fuel? By the way, my late father in law was a pro drag racer, he happened to know shirley muldowney personaly.

So you were saying?

Thanks for all the input guys, at present I've been putting about 4 ounces of moonshine methanol onto a full tank, definately makes it run better and was just wondering what it would take to run more of a mix

I have had a little experience with the subject. I lived in NY a few years ago and they have some pritty nasty emisions requirements so I thought that if the car could run in alcohol it would burn clean....right? Well took my 79 Zepher with the 3.3 straight six to the race shop and filled it with methinol. It ran fine for a few miles on the hwy than it started to shutter and shake. I pulled to the side of the road and it idled smooth? Hit the gas and it stumbled??? I'm thinkingProfanity Removed So a slow idle ride to the gas station and it passed emisions with flying colors at idle! But it would not take the gas? Anyway after limping it home I found that the methonal had melted the fuel filter into a ball of plastic that cloged the gas line when it flowed fast but idles fine with a light demand on the fuel system.
Well the moral of the story***what does not melt in gas might melt in alochol***
Good luck!
PS: as far as it running better on it...don't think so It would raise the octaine rating a little but if you don't tune for that it would not help performance at all, might hurt it.
well were talking alcohol here. so if you went to a race shop and filled your car with aviation fuel ie (racing gas) then i gues you got what you deserv, by the way, there not the same fuel. DW
