I have a 2008 Ford f-350 6.4 built 11.6.2008. The truck died while driving and with full battery ignition, gauges and indicators all cycled and worked it would not crank. I had it towed to the dealer.
Here is what I have been told so far:
1. ECM is not throwing any codes, all wires in are good buy possible one ground out of the ECM is bad. - Replaced ECM $795 plus $250 programming - Did not fix the problem
2. They removed a dealer installed disable security system - Did not fix the problem
3. Said they found a pin on the connector to the inertia sensor and got the truck running. - Total bill $1280.00
I picked up the truck and drove approximately 20 miles it died again. Same symptoms.
They found lift pump fuse blown, ohmed the pump and found it was bad. Replaced the lift pump for $680 and have put 50 miles on the truck and all seems good. Any suggestions on how to approach the situation of a "missing ground " on the ECM. Given the bad connector pin on the inertia switch I feel like I am buying a ECM that I don't need. I did pay the core charge to keep it on first pick-up... Suggestions?
When I still had my F-350 (V-10) I had an intermittent problem that the dealer had trouble diagnosing. I met with the service manager initially and told him that I would pay the bill to fix my truck, but I would not pay for parts that they threw at the problem guessing if it would fix the issue.
They replaced the crank position sensor, part of the engine harness, catalytic converter, ECM and they did not fix my problem. They did however send me a bill for over $4000. I met with the General Manager and did not pay a dime toward the parts that did not repair my problem.
I would suggest meeting with the Service Manager and/or the General Manager to seek a refund for parts you did not need. Good luck!
