Angry Transmission failure

Yesterday while pulling a shrub out of the ground with my 2002 F350 4x4 the transmission completely failed (no forward or reverse gears). The truck has been babied (<16K) and would hardly say that what I was doing shouldn't have caused this problem. The failure occured while the truck was in 4wheel high setting.

Dealer has it but hasn't come up with anything. Says he measures no pressure and will most likely need to pull it out for further investigation.

Anyone have the same experience or know of a similar problem? Also, any comments in general about the durability of the transmission in these trucks.

Thanks......john

Must have been a big shrub. I have pulled out large bushes with my trucks and have had no problems. I wonder what could have happened. Keep us updated and good luck.

I have been batteling with the Dealer on my F250 2002 Diesel Automatic. I blew my front pump seal at 25K backing a car trailer up the driver. Since Mid December the truck has been in the shop 5 times, and they still will not replace the trans. Good luck it has been a royal pain in the *** for me. I am supoose to get it back today, If it goes back in again I am going to try to Lemon Law it.

Just wanted to provide an update -

After 1 week of the dealer investigating the problem I received a call on Friday saying that they are replacing the transmission pump. When I asked about the level of confidence this had in fixing the problem, the reply was "not sure but that is what the folks in Dearborn recommend". Next step is to replace the engine. I will know something on Mar. 8th in the AM.

Also, did my own research. What I found is that this is a common problem. I spoke to someone in the towing industry who run F350-F550 tow trucks and said he has had numerous problems. One truck blew its tranny and was totally replaced.

I'm not sure what to expect but don't want to over-react just yet.

Im curious why they would have to replace an engine when your having problems with the trans. I would go with a BTS if the dealer cant fix it. I wouldnt be letting them put a new engine in the truck for a blown trans.
